operational excellence management system

In 2004, we launched our Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS), a comprehensive system that helped build our OE culture and improve our health, environment and safety performance. Our recently updated OEMS features more visible linkages between risk, assurance and safeguards and contains a streamlined approach to manage risk. These updates help increase our focus on preventing high-consequence incidents and impacts.

OEMS

safeguards are at the heart of OEMS

leadership and OE culture

Through the OEMS, our leaders engage employees and contractors to build and sustain our OE culture and deliver OE performance.

焦点地区和OE期望

Focus areas align with critical OE risks and include:

  • 劳动力安全和健康
  • Process safety, reliability and integrity
  • Environment
  • Efficiency
  • Security
  • Stakeholders

The OE expectations guide us to design, manage and assure the presence and effectiveness of safeguards.

management system cycle

Through application of the Management System Cycle, our leaders make risk-based and data-driven decisions, prioritize activities, and direct improvements.

risk management

OEMS is a risk-based and systematic approach to identify, assess, prioritize and manage OE risks.

safeguards

We establish and sustain safeguards and assure they are in place and functioning in accordance with legal and OE requirements.

Safeguards are the hardware and human actions designed to directly prevent or mitigate an incident or impact. Typical safeguards include facility designs, mechanical devices, engineered systems, protective equipment and execution of procedures.

assurance

Through the execution of assurance programs, we have confidence the safeguards are in place and functioning.

We focus on preventing high-consequence incidents and impacts by understanding and mitigating risks and maintaining and assuring safeguards.

Attestation of the OEMS against ISO standards

Since 2004, Chevron has engaged an independent organization, Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), to verify that our Operational Excellence Management System meets international environmental and safety management system standards and specifications.

In 2019, LRQA attested to the alignment of Chevron's Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) with the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007 and that OEMS is implemented throughout the corporation.
