In our Marcellus operations, Chevron is working to reuse 100 percent of the brine water produced with the natural gas. This reduces our freshwater consumption as well as our need for water trucking, transfer and disposal. We also use water pipelines to lessen the need for the tanker trucks often used for water transport.

We take into account ways we can lessen potential impacts on the land we touch during development of well sites and over the life of our operations. Before building a well site, we plan pads, access roads and facilities to reduce interference with wildlife, scenic views and agriculture. We also work with landowners to limit potential impacts on their farming and ranching activities.

• We require trucks to have monitoring equipment to confirm safe, legal speeds and stops.
• We require drivers to follow safe driving practices.
• We work with local officials to determine best routes to avoid high-traffic or sensitive areas.
• We obtain permits to drive those routes, and we use GPS tracking to verify they are being followed.
• Where possible, we seek alternatives to reduce the volume of truck traffic. For example, treating flowback water onsite eliminates the need to transport water to treatment facilities.
